Wah-Wah

Picture
What is Wah-Wah?

Wah-wah (or wah) alters the frequencies (EQ) of the sound by rocking the pedal back and forth. Changing the position of the pedal creates a sweeping frequency filter, which emphasizes either the bass or treble frequencies. This sounds a bit like the human voice saying the words, “wah-wah.”

This effect was inspired by 1920s jazz trumpet and brass players, who used mutes to make their sound more expressive.
